How to prepare your home before the painters arrive

A little preparation makes an interior job faster, cleaner and less disruptive. Here is what helps most — and what you can leave to us.

Clear the working space

Move small items, valuables and anything breakable out of the rooms being painted. We move and protect the heavy furniture ourselves, but the fewer small objects in the way, the faster the crew can set up and the less handling your belongings need.

Tell us about problem areas

Point out anything you already know about — a patch that keeps cracking, a spot that gets damp, a door that sticks. Knowing in advance lets us prep properly rather than discovering it halfway through and having to adjust.

Plan around pets and routines

Let us know your household's rhythm: nap times, when pets need quiet, when you work from home. We plan the day around it. Pets are usually happiest closed off in a room we are not working in.

What you do not need to do

Do not sand, patch or wash the walls yourself. Surface preparation is part of the job and doing it in advance rarely matches what the coating needs — we would only redo it. Leave the prep to the crew.
